VP Radhakrishnan Warns Indian Youth May Follow 'Cockroach' If Positive News Is Ignored

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has said that young people could end up following the "cockroach" if positive developments and achievements are not reported adequately by the media. Speaking at the 140th anniversary celebrations of Malayalam daily Deepika, he stressed that the media has a responsibility to highlight constructive stories that can inspire society and provide the right information to the younger generation. While clarifying that he supports freedom of expression, Radhakrishnan questioned the tendency to give excessive attention to issues and trends that may not have lasting significance. Apparently referring to the recent popularity of the satirical social media platform Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), he said fleeting trends should not overshadow meaningful developments, adding that genuinely valuable initiatives continue to be recognised over time.
