India Gears Up for the 12th International Day of Yoga Celebration

India is preparing for one of its largest public wellness events, the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY), scheduled for Sunday at the renowned Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, along with actor and fitness advocate Akshay Kumar, will lead a mass yoga session with 3,000 participants, focusing on the theme 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing.'

Nationwide Yoga Celebrations

The Sports Ministry will coordinate yoga events across the country, with sessions planned at all Sports Authority of India Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence, SAI Training Centres, and Khelo India institutions. More than 15,000 participants are anticipated to join these sessions nationwide, as stated in a recent press release. Additionally, National Sports Federations, State Sports Departments, and Sports Universities will also host simultaneous events, showcasing a unified effort to promote yoga.


Yoga's Global Significance

Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the global impact of yoga, noting that since the United Nations recognized June 21 as International Day of Yoga in 2014, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative, the observance has transformed into a worldwide celebration of physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. This day unites millions of yoga practitioners across the globe, illustrating yoga's ability to transcend borders.
