Shillong, June 15: On Monday, Meghalaya's Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma revealed plans to lay the foundation stones for four new national highway projects and upgrade two existing highway segments, with a total investment of ₹3,214 crore.

The ceremony for these projects will take place at the Polo Grounds in Shillong, attended by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

Sangma highlighted this initiative on social media, calling it a crucial move to enhance the state's transportation network and stimulate economic development.

"Tomorrow marks an exciting day as we lay the foundations for four new National Highway Projects and upgrade two existing highways in Meghalaya, with an investment of ₹3,214 crore at the North East Infrastructure Summit in New Shillong, attended by Hon'ble Union Minister for @MORTHIndia, Shri @nitin_gadkari ji," Sangma stated on Sunday evening.

The four new projects consist of the 7.76-km Pynursla Bypass on NH-206, with an estimated cost of ₹564 crore; the 31.5-km Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge-Selsella Road on NH-127B, costing ₹737 crore; the 31.7-km Selsella-Goeragre Road on NH-206, estimated at ₹504 crore; and the 29-km Tura Bypass on NH-217, which will be developed at a cost of ₹951 crore.

Additionally, two existing highway segments will undergo upgrades. A 10.67-km stretch of the Shillong-Dawki Road will be enhanced at a cost of ₹351 crore, while a 5.44-km section of the Jowai Bypass will be improved for ₹106 crore.

Officials indicate that these projects are anticipated to bolster inter-district and interstate connectivity, enhance transport infrastructure, and promote trade, tourism, and economic activities throughout Meghalaya.
