Over Rs 1400 Cr At Stakes, June Gets Crowded With 9 Major Releases; Trade Analysts Unhappy
Bollywood is a strange place when it comes to planning the release dates for their movies. In the month of March, there was only one major release – Dhurandhar: The Revenge.
In April, there was only one major Hindi release – Bhooth Bangla. And then in the month of May, Hindi cinema witnessed the release of three major movies – Raja Shivaji, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do and Chand Mera Dil
This means, there were five major releases in 12 weeks for Bollywood and now June 2026 is seeing a hoard of movies in just a span of four weeks.
The first week of June saw the releases of Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Bobby Deol’s Bandar and the Telugu pan-India movie Peddi starring Ram Charan.
The second week of June will see the release of Diljit Dosanjh’s Main Vaapas Aaunga
, Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Manoj Bajpayee's Governor and Mahaakshay Chakraborty's Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past.In the third week of June, there is one major release, the Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna starrer Cocktail 2.
And finally in the fourth week of June, there is Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon and Arshad Warsi’s Welcome to the Jungle
.Besides these nine major Hindi and pan-Indian movies, there are also Nicholas Galitzine, Idris Elba and Jared Leto's Masters of the Universe, Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen’s Toy Story 5 and DCU movie Supergirl.
Keeping aside the Hollywood releases, as per Bollywood Hungama, there are Rs 1400 crore plus at stakes based on the aforementioned nine major Hindi and pan-India releases.
This makes June “Bollywood's biggest and most competitive month yet”. But trade analysts are unhappy.
Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh told the website, “Now you can’t stop anyone. Every producer is of the opinion that ‘Main kyun aage jaaoon?’. For me, all films are important. You never know which film the audience will take to. I hope every film works. Sabke paise bhi toh lage hai
Atul Mohan stated, “It’s shocking. Why can’t the filmmakers plan their releases? There are times when we don’t have many releases for weeks. Releases should have been scattered. Producers should have planned in advance. But they don’t do it and later, they fight over screens. 2 films in a week are more than enough. Releasing 4 films in a week is not justified as it’ll divide the audience.”
Exhibitor Raj Bansal echoed a similar sentiment and said, “I was quite shocked. There were hardly any films in May and now suddenly, there’ll be an overflow of releases. This is the problem with our industry – there are periods of drought followed by a barrage of releases on certain Fridays.”
He added, “Definitely, it’ll cut the business of other films and also lead to fights for screens. Distributors would ask for more shows for their films and try to cut down on shows of other movies. But exhibitors have become very smart now. They’ll open advance booking in 1 screen for two films initially. Then, whichever film sells more tickets will get more shows.”
The trade analysts were also of opinion that less releases in May could be due to IPL and also the fact that summer vacations begin by May end, which is considered a lucrative period for movies at the box office.
