TMC Accuses Election Irregularities in West Bengal Amid BJP's Rise
Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has raised serious allegations regarding significant irregularities in the recent elections held in West Bengal. He claimed that nearly 3 million legitimate voters were removed from the electoral rolls. Banerjee stated that the party faced a challenging election and accused various institutions, including government agencies and the Election Commission, of acting in a biased manner. This revelation comes right after Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of the state, marking a significant political shift in West Bengal.
In a post on X, Banerjee expressed that the party fought a very tough election, alleging that around 30 lakh genuine voters were excluded from the voter list. He noted that throughout this process, there was evident partiality from several government bodies and the Election Commission of India. This raised serious questions about the fairness, reliability, and transparency of the electoral process in West Bengal. He also voiced concerns regarding the counting process and the operation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Post-Election Violence Allegations
Banerjee accused the opposition of resorting to violence and intimidation against TMC workers and supporters after the elections. He assured that under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's leadership, the party would adhere to legal and democratic measures. He emphasized that numerous troubling incidents, from the counting process to discrepancies in control units, have led many to question whether the true mandate of the people was honored. He has already called for the release of CCTV footage from counting centers and a transparent counting of VVPAT slips to unveil the truth and address all doubts openly and honestly.
