27th Kargil Vijay Diwas: How India took the high ground from Pakistan, rewrote military doctrine

NEW DELHI: Twenty-seven years after Indian soldiers recaptured the icy heights of Kargil , the conflict continues to shape India's military doctrine, defence modernisation and national security strategy. Observed every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory in the 1999 Kargil War, honours the 527 soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Vijay and pays tribute to the courage of thousands who fought in one of the world's toughest battlefields.
