G7 leaders vow to contribute to implementation of US-Iran deal
The Group of Seven (G7) leaders have pledged their support for the implementation of a United States-Iran deal.
The leaders said a multinational initiative led by France and the United Kingdom could help restore maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
This initiative aims to protect merchant ships, reassure ship operators, and verify that all mines are removed from the area.
Nuclear threat and regional dangers
The G7 leaders have welcomed the US-Iran deal as a historic opportunity to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to address regional threats.
They stressed that negotiations should tackle these threats and ensure Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon.
The leaders also called for contributions from regional and international partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Ceasefire in Lebanon, disarmament of Hezbollah demanded
The G7 leaders have also called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and the disarmament of Hezbollah.
They stressed that Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon have emerged as a major irritant in Trump's negotiations with Iran.
During a meeting with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, Trump criticized Netanyahu's actions in Lebanon, saying they cast a "negative light" on the deal with Iran.
He said without him, "there would be no Israel."
