Transparency International has released its 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), ranking 180 countries based on perceived public sector corruption. The index, scored from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean), highlights ongoing global corruption challenges. While some nations have improved, the majority remain stagnant or have worsened.
Denmark continues to lead as the world’s least corrupt country for the seventh consecutive year, scoring 90 points. Finland and Singapore follow closely, while other European nations dominate the top ranks.
South Sudan is the world’s most corrupt country, scoring just 8 points. Somalia and Venezuela follow closely behind, while conflict-ridden nations like Syria and Yemen also feature in the bottom rankings.
Despite some improvements, corruption remains a major issue worldwide. More than two-thirds of countries score below 50, meaning 6.8 billion people - 85% of the global population - live in nations struggling with corruption. While 32 countries have improved since 2012, 148 nations have either worsened or shown no progress.
The 2024 CPI highlights the urgent need for stronger governance, transparency, and anti-corruption measures to ensure fair and just societies.
The Least Corrupt Nations
