Govinda Opens Up On Patching Up With David Dhawan: ‘Let Bygones Be Bygones’

Govinda and David Dhawan , the iconic duo of Bollywood's classic hits including 'Hero No. 1', 'Coolie No. 1', 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', 'Haseena Maan Jaayegi', and 'Deewana Mastana', recently reconciled at producer Ramesh Turani’s Diwali celebration.

The actor hinted at their renewed bond by sharing a photo with the filmmaker, signaling their move towards reconciliation.
Confirming their patch-up, Govinda disclosed that the Diwali gathering marked their second meeting since resolving their differences.

Govinda on Patch Up with David Dhawan

“I am glad people still feel that we should work together. Yeh unka pyaar hai. Our patch-up had already happened. This was our second meeting. It was a Diwali bash where we ate good food and had a great time. We don’t believe in raking up the past. Why mull over it? That’s not necessary. Let bygones be bygones. Filmy talk wasn’t a priority, but when that happened, we only spoke about the happy memories and those were plenty,” Govinda shared with Bombay Times.

Days before Diwali earlier this month, Govinda posted a photo with David Dhawan, stating, “80s aur 90s mein meri do biwiyaan thi. Ek Sunita aur ek David!.” Varun Dhawan responded to the post with a heart emoji.

What Keeps Govinda Away from Bollywood Parties?

Govinda clarified his absence from Bollywood gatherings by stating, “I stepped out for an industry party after 19-20 years because it was an industry party and not a group party. Ramesh Taurani is a good person. Over the years, Bollywood parties have become these group parties, and if you don’t belong to a certain group (camp), you aren’t invited. If you are not seen at these parties, it is assumed that you aren’t social, which is wrong. I am not anti-social at all, and I don’t believe in groups. Back then, people used to say Govinda, Shakti Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor and David Dhawan are a group. I didn’t agree with that either. We are all artistes who worked together.”

What Led to Govinda and David Dhawan's Fallout ?

In 2019, Govinda revealed the cause behind his fallout with David Dhawan. During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Govinda shared, “After I left politics, I told my secretary to keep the phone speaker on, so that I could listen what he (David Dhawan) was saying. I heard David saying, Chi-Chi (Govinda’s nickname) is questioning a lot. He was telling my secretary, I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles.”

“This shocked me and I decided never to work with him. After 4-5 months, I again rang him up just to find out if he would give me a guest appearance in his film. He then never rang me back. I am revealing this in public after so many years. I think he is under somebody’s influence. I do not think he is that same David Dhawan whom I used to know,” he further added.
