The Rajasthan government has taken a significant step to promote women's participation in the agricultural sector by launching a free seed minikit distribution scheme. This initiative, aimed at empowering women farmers , provides them with essential seeds to enhance their agricultural activities. The scheme is expected to benefit 24.58 lakh women farmers across the state.
A Step Toward Women Empowerment in Agriculture
Agriculture Commissioner Chinmayi Gopal announced that this scheme was introduced in the state’s 2024-25 budget and is now being implemented. Under the program, women farmers are receiving free seed minikits for crucial crops like moong, moth, jowar, maize, and millet. The goal of this initiative is to economically empower women by increasing their participation in agriculture, thereby boosting overall crop production in Rajasthan
What Do Women Farmers Receive?
As part of this scheme, the government is distributing:
- 4 lakh minikits of 4 kg moong seeds,
- 1 lakh minikits of 4 kg moth seeds,
- 89,000 minikits of 4 kg jowar seeds,
- 10.79 lakh minikits of 5 kg maize seeds, and
- 7.90 lakh minikits of 1.5 kg millet seeds.
Prioritizing Marginalized Women Farmers
The scheme gives priority to women farmers from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, small and marginal farmers, self-help groups, persons with disabilities, and those living below the poverty line. Each woman farmer receives a seed minikit to help increase her agricultural output. This initiative not only enhances agricultural productivity but also contributes to the self-reliance of women farmers and their role in the state’s agricultural economy.
This targeted approach by the Rajasthan government is a crucial step toward economic empowerment and agricultural sustainability for women in rural areas.
