NEW DELHI: Rupkamal Kalita , one of the eight individuals present on the yacht in Singapore when singer Zubeen Garg tragically died, has arrived at the CBI headquarters to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government has requested the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department to examine the financial angle in the case. “I hope the central agencies will take cognisance of it,” he added.

Sarma earlier said that Rupkamal Kalita, one of the individuals linked to the yacht, has informed authorities that he will move to Guwahati on Tuesday to cooperate with the investigation. He noted that the remaining seven have so far remained silent about appearing before Assam’s SIT.

On the question of investigating in Singapore, the CM said Assam Police do not need to travel there. Through the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore, evidence collected by Singapore authorities will be shared with Assam.
“Our request has already been sent to Singapore,” he said, explaining that foreign countries generally do not permit direct investigations by overseas police.

The SIT already has four key arrests: North East India festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, and singer Amritprabha Mahanta.

On Monday, the team also recorded statements from Zubeen’s cousin Rituprayag Garg, studio caretaker Abhimanyu Tanti, domestic help Sadhan Nath, and two female singers. Earlier, over 55 FIRs had already been lodged across Assam naming multiple persons.
