3 bridges opened, connectivity to Pkl and Manimajra restored
Chandigarh: The UT administration opened three causeways to traffic Saturday, after clearing the silt and taking a slew of precautionary measures. These include Kishangarh, Bapudham, and Makhanmajra.
Meanwhile, cleaning of the bridge located in Industrial Area Phase I, which goes towards the Chandigarh railway station, continued until late Sunday. MC's engineering department plans to open it a day after (Monday).
The decision to open the three causeways, under the jurisdiction of the UT administration, was taken with the aim of restoring round-the-clock connectivity to Panchkula, Manimajra, and nearby areas. Severe waterlogging and flooding triggered by heay rain had disrupted connectivity last week. As a result, vehicles were diverted to Madhya Marg, which remained chock-a block. Now, that stretch too will be decongested.
Sources said, "Silt was cleared from Kishangarh, Bapudham, and Makhanmajra bridges Friday night. Apart from silt, trees, branches, and debris had also piled up on these causeways ."
