Aadhaar Card 2025: 4 Important Rule Changes Every User Should Know
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out several important Aadhaar Card rule updates in 2025. From revised update fees to new biometric guidelines for children and enhanced security measures for digital payments, these changes aim to improve convenience, transparency, and safety for millions of users. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Aadhaar Card rules in 2025.
1. Revised Aadhaar Update Fees from October 2025
Updating your Aadhaar details such as name, address, date of birth, mobile number, or email now costs more. As per the latest UIDAI notification effective from October 1, 2025, the fee for demographic updates has increased from ₹50 to ₹75. Similarly, biometric updates like fingerprint, iris, or photo changes will now cost ₹125, up from ₹100. This revision aims to enhance service efficiency and maintain data accuracy across enrolment centres.
2. Free Aadhaar Biometric Updates for Children
In a major relief for parents, UIDAI has announced that children between 7 and 15 years can update their Aadhaar biometrics free of cost until September 30, 2026. For kids aged 5 to 7 years and 15 to 17 years, the first biometric update will also remain free.
Additionally, document updates can be done online for free until June 26, 2026. However, those preferring to update at Aadhaar centres will have to pay ₹75. For new Aadhaar enrolments, the first person will be charged ₹700, while additional members in the same family can enrol for ₹350.
3. Stronger Rules for Aadhaar-Enabled Payment System (AePS)
To enhance user security, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced stricter regulations for the Aadhaar-Enabled Payment System (AePS), effective from January 1, 2026. These new rules are designed to combat the rise in AePS-related fraud cases.
All system touchpoints and service providers must now integrate their platforms with stronger verification frameworks to ensure secure Aadhaar-linked transactions. The move will help strengthen risk management and fraud prevention in Aadhaar-based digital payments.
4. New Aadhaar e-KYC System Introduced
UIDAI, in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has launched a new and improved Aadhaar e-KYC system. This upgraded framework allows banks and NBFCs to verify a customer’s identity using their full Aadhaar number or even a masked Aadhaar ID, ensuring both security and convenience.
The new e-KYC process simplifies verification for financial services, reducing manual errors and promoting faster onboarding for banking and digital transactions.
The new Aadhaar Card rules 2025 bring a mix of enhanced security, revised service fees, and user-friendly updates for children and digital verification systems. Every Aadhaar holder should stay informed about these changes to avoid inconvenience and ensure smooth access to essential services.
