Big UPI Update: NPCI’s AI-Powered Payment System Could Change How India Pays

UPI payments in India are on the verge of a major technological leap as the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) works on an AI-powered payment framework that could automate everyday financial transactions. The upcoming system, called the Unified Agent Protocol (UAP), aims to enable AI agents to carry out tasks such as bill payments , subscription renewals and online purchases on behalf of users—while ensuring every transaction happens only with their permission. The move is expected to make digital payments faster, more convenient and highly secure without changing the way people currently use UPI.
