Bengaluru Man Steps In To Drive Cab After Driver Falls Asleep, Video Goes Viral
A startup founder from Bengaluru has become an overnight sensation on social media after a peculiar late-night incident. Milind Chandwani , an IIM graduate, was heading home from the Bengaluru Airport when his cab ride took an unexpected turn—literally and figuratively.
In a now-viral Instagram post, Mr. Chandwani shared how he ended up behind the wheel of his cab after the driver, battling drowsiness, could no longer stay awake.
"Last night at 3 AM while returning from Bengaluru airport, I found myself in an unexpected role: my cab driver's driver," Milind captioned the video. He recounted that despite multiple stops for tea and cigarettes, the driver couldn’t shake off his sleepiness. "He was so sleepy, he even stopped for tea and a cigarette but still couldn't keep his eyes open. So, I offered to drive, and to my surprise, he handed me the keys faster than I could say 'Bengaluru traffic.'"
The video shows the driver fast asleep in the passenger seat as Milind navigates the city streets using Google Maps. Humorously dubbing the navigation app his “co-pilot,” he revealed how the driver reclined his seat and immediately dozed off.
The episode took another twist when the driver’s boss called, just minutes before they reached the destination. Milind overheard the driver pleading for a day shift, admitting his struggles with night duty.
Social media exploded with reactions as the video racked up over 13.2 million views. Comments ranged from applauding Milind’s empathy to slamming the driver for endangering lives.
While the incident sparked laughter and debate, it also highlighted the pressures on cab drivers working night shifts. For Milind, it was a night to remember—and for the internet, a story too wild to forget.
