Help held for stealing 1cr jewellery
Kolkata: Kolkata Police arrested a domestic help for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and expensive watches worth over Rs 1 crore from a businessman's house on Rowland Row in Ballygunge where he was employed for the past 10 years.
The accused, Deepak Mondal, was nabbed on Sunday night from a train at Sealdah station while attempting to flee to Bihar's Madhubani. The police recovered various valuable items, including a gold chain, from his possession.
Nathmal Bangani (73), residing at Rowland Row, reported the theft of several gold and diamond-studded jewellery pieces, a Rolex wristwatch, two other wristwatches, some silver articles, and approximately Rs 12,000 in cash at Ballygunge police station.
According to police, Mondal's employment in the house for a decade had allowed him to learn where gold ornaments and imported watches were kept and the whereabouts of the keys to the almirah.
