IMD Issues Yellow Alert For 10 Kerala Districts As Rains Intensify Across The State
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for ten districts in Kerala, warning of heavy rainfall over the next two days. The alert covers Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
According to IMD officials, the current spell of rain is being driven by an intensified low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea, which is expected to develop into a depression in the coming hours. This system is likely to enhance rainfall activity across central and northern parts of the state.
The IMD also said that the northeast monsoon is set to strengthen over Kerala within the next 48 hours, bringing widespread showers and possible thunderstorms.
Authorities have advised residents in low-lying and hilly regions to remain cautious, as heavy downpours could lead to waterlogging, minor flooding, or landslides in vulnerable areas. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea, as wind speeds are expected to increase due to the developing weather system.
With the festive season still ongoing, local administrations have stepped up preparations to handle emergencies. District control rooms have been activated, and disaster management teams are on alert to respond quickly to any situation.
As the northeast monsoon picks up momentum, Kerala is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall across several regions, marking an active wet phase for the state in the coming days.
