A disturbing video showing the founder of a private coaching institute, ' Indian Army Calling ,' in Andhra Pradesh beating a student with a belt went viral on Friday. The footage shows Basava Venkata Ramana, the founder, assaulting the student as others kneel in the background. The incident sparked outrage, with many calling for immediate action.
In response, Human Resource Minister Nara Lokesh condemned the violent behavior, saying, “Whatever may be the reason, such acts of aggression is unwarranted..” Lokesh, who is also the son of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, instructed the police to take appropriate action. The Andhra Pradesh Police confirmed the incident took place in December 2023, and investigations are ongoing. They assured that the student in the video has been identified, and statements are being gathered before filing a case.
Meanwhile, accusations against Ramana grew louder. Some netizens claimed he had extorted Rs 5-10 lakh from students, promising them military jobs in exchange. The opposition YSR Congress Party went further, accusing Ramana of running a fraudulent recruitment center. They alleged he used secret cameras to blackmail women and tortured those who tried to expose him. They also linked him to political connections, including local MLA Gundu Shankar, suggesting a broader network of exploitation and intimidation.
“When four young men tried to expose him, they were abducted and tortured. Leveraging political connections with local MLA Gundu Shankar, Ramana also extorted malls and bars using threats. This shocking case highlights the coalition government’s failure to curb such miscreants, leaving public safety in jeopardy,” the YSRCP said.
