A disturbing incident at Amity University, Lucknow, has triggered outrage after a video of a law student being repeatedly slapped by his classmates went viral on social media. The incident occurred on August 26 in the parking lot of the university when the victim, identified as Shikhar Mukesh Kesarwani, a BA LLB student, arrived on campus in his friend’s car. According to reports, the student was allegedly slapped “50 to 60 times” by his peers inside the vehicle.

Complaint Filed by the Victim’s Father

The victim’s father lodged a formal complaint against the accused students, naming Ayush Yadav, Jahnvi Mishra, Milay Banerjee, Vivek Singh, and Aryaman Shukla. He stated that his son had been severely traumatised by the assault and no longer wanted to attend college. NDTV quoted him saying that the group of students ambushed Shikhar as soon as he reached the parking lot, claiming they wanted to speak with him before forcefully boarding the vehicle.

Father’s Shocking Allegations

The father revealed that his son had recently undergone ligament surgery on August 11 and was still walking with the help of a stick at the time of the incident. He said, “On August 11, my son underwent ligament surgery. He was walking with the help of a stick. Jahnvi Mishra and Ayush Yadav then slapped my son at least 50 to 60 times and also abused me and my parents. They also threatened to kill us.”

He further alleged that two of the other accused, Vivek Singh and Milay Banerjee, filmed the incident and circulated the video around campus instead of stopping the assault. According to him, the accused also broke Shikhar’s mobile phone and later threatened the family. “When I visited the college, they threatened me and told me never to come again. They threatened to assault me in a similar way,” he added.

What the Viral Video Shows

The widely circulated video captured the female student, identified as Jahnvi Mishra, standing on the front seat of the car and slapping Shikhar multiple times across his left cheek. She was heard ordering him, “Haath niche” (put your hand down), while continuing the assault.

In the video, a male student sitting beside Shikhar punched him on his right cheek when he tried to defend himself. The female student repeatedly demanded answers from Shikhar, saying, “Kya bola tha tumne? Character? Character?” She continued slapping him as another male student added, “Character ka bola tha. Haath niche kar. You will talk about Jahnvi and Soumya?”

Psychological Impact on the Victim

According to the victim’s father, the traumatic incident has left Shikhar unwilling to return to college, fearing further harassment. The assault has sparked conversations on student safety, bullying, and accountability on university campuses, especially since the attack was recorded and shared rather than stopped.

Public Outrage and Questions on Safety

The case has led to widespread outrage on social media, with many questioning how such an incident could take place inside a reputed university campus. The fact that the video was circulated among students has intensified calls for strict action and accountability from the institution.

Institutional Responsibility Under Scrutiny

Incidents like these have raised concerns about the safety protocols in universities and the role of campus authorities in ensuring a secure environment for students. The fact that the assault happened inside the campus premises has placed additional pressure on the university administration to respond.

The Road Ahead

While an official response from the university is awaited, the incident has opened larger discussions about ragging, bullying, and peer violence in higher education institutions. Students and parents are now urging universities across the country to take strict preventive measures and create safe grievance redressal mechanisms for victims.
