Modifications To CBSE Academic Framework: Implementing Creditisation For Classes 9-12
The Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) is considering making modifications to the academic framework for Classes 9-12 in order to implement creditisation in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This move aims to create academic parity between vocational and general education. The National Credit Framework (NCrF) introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2022 will support creditisation.
Under the proposed changes, each subject will be assigned credits based on the learning time it requires. A full academic year will consist of 1,200 notional learning hours or 40 credits. This new system will provide students with more flexibility in choosing their subjects and pacing their studies. Moreover, grades will be based on relative ranking in the class rather than absolute marks.
The credit system will also emphasize holistic development, giving credits for non-academic activities. This means that students will be recognized for their participation in extracurricular activities, sports, and other non-academic pursuits. This will encourage students to develop a well-rounded personality and promote a balanced approach to education.
For CBSE Class 9-10, the proposed changes include the addition of multidisciplinary and vocational courses, as well as an increase in the number of subjects from 5 to 10. This will allow students to explore a wider range of subjects and gain exposure to different disciplines. It will also help them make informed decisions about their future career paths.
In CBSE Class 11-12, students will be required to take 6 subjects, including 2 languages and 4 subjects with an optional fifth subject. This will provide students with more flexibility to choose subjects according to their interests and career goals. It will also allow them to focus on areas they excel in and maximize their potential.
In other news, CBSE has released the admit card for the CBSE 10th and 12th Board Exam 2024 for private candidates. Private candidates can download their admit cards from the official website by logging in with their application number or previous roll number/year or candidate name. Private candidates refer to students who appear for the board exams without attending a regular school. The exam pattern and syllabus are similar for both private and regular students. If a private candidate passes the exam, they will receive a certificate from the CBSE board, although it will not mention that they appeared as a private candidate.
