Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj: Blocked OTT Film To Be Screened Across Gurudwaras in Five States
The biographical movie Satluj is based entirely on the life and dangerous investigations of legendary Punjabi human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra . In the early 1990s, Khalra uncovered evidence showing that local authorities had illegally cremated nearly 25,000 unidentified Sikh youths without ever informing their grieving families. Because of this heavy historical subject matter, the film faced a brutal four-year censorship battle. When it finally dropped uncut on ZEE5, the Central Government stepped in within two days and ordered its immediate removal under the Information Technology (IT) Rules, citing national security concerns and public order fears.

Gurudwaras Open Their Doors to the Public
Sikh religious leaders and community groups strongly condemned the online takedown, calling it a direct attempt to silence a dark chapter of Punjab's real history. To fight back against this digital block, gurudwara management committees across five major regions Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Jammu have collectively decided to handle the distribution themselves. Since the public cannot watch the film on their smartphones or television screens anymore, religious bodies are setting up large projectors and LED displays in community halls and open grounds to stream the movie completely free of charge.Screening Schedules Across Five States
The mass community screenings have already kicked off successfully in multiple rural villages across Punjab, drawing massive crowds of local residents. In Jammu, the movie is officially scheduled to play across four separate gurudwaras. Meanwhile, a major public screening has been announced at the Baba Fateh Singh Auditorium inside the Chandi Ki Taksal Gurudwara in Jaipur, Rajasthan. In the national capital, the DSGMC has arranged for its first large-scale screening at the Lakhi Shah Vanjara Hall inside the historic Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi.Seminars Planned for Schools and Colleges
Community leaders emphasize that this screening drive is a form of peaceful service to preserve historical memory. Beyond screening the movie inside places of worship, the management committees are planning to expand their reach by holding special historical seminars and educational screenings inside various community schools and colleges. The main goal behind this movement is to ensure that the immense sacrifices made by Jaswant Singh Khalra are taught to the younger generation, proving that important historical truths cannot be hidden by an OTT platform block.
