The intersection of Indian cinema and cricket has long produced some of the country's most compelling stories, and the latest announcement has generated excitement among both Bollywood enthusiasts and cricket fans. The first look of the biographical drama Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story has officially been unveiled, confirming that National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao will portray the legendary former Indian cricket captain. The makers released the first-look poster on Sourav Ganguly's birthday, making the annual celebration even more special for millions of his fans around the world.

The striking first-look poster zeroes in on a monumental snapshot of sporting folklore, capturing Rajkummar Rao as he meticulously recreates Ganguly’s most famous and defiant gesture: the iconic jersey-waving celebration on the balcony of Lord’s Cricket Ground. For the uninitiated, this spontaneous act of passion occurred immediately after India secured a historic, breathless victory over England in the final of the 2002 NatWest Trophy. The visual reference immediately transports cricket purists back to a golden afternoon in London, evoking a profound sense of nostalgia whilst demonstrating Rao’s uncanny ability to adopt the body language and fierce determination of the man fondly known as 'Dada'.

To truly understand the significance of the image chosen for the first look, one must revisit the historic events of that unforgettable day in July 2002. Chasing a daunting target of 326 against a formidable England side, India's hopes appeared to be fading after a middle-order collapse. However, a remarkable and resilient partnership between young stars Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif steered India to a thrilling victory in a nerve-racking finale. Ganguly's iconic decision to take off his blue jersey and wave it above his head from the historic Lord's balcony was more than a spontaneous celebration of triumph. it was a deliberate response to England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who had celebrated in a similar fashion at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium earlier that year. That unforgettable moment came to symbolise the emergence of a fearless and unapologetic Indian cricket team that refused to be intimidated on foreign soil.
