Director Rajkumar Santoshi's historical drama Batwara 1947 has reached a major milestone, securing clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any mandated cuts. Receiving a smooth censor pass with zero edits allows the filmmakers to present their narrative completely intact. Backed by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions, the movie is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical premiere on August 14, 2026, coinciding with Partition Day.
The project also marks the return of Preity Zinta alongside a multi-generational supporting ensemble including Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur. The film is an official adaptation of acclaimed playwright Asghar Wajahat's play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. Set amidst the turbulent aftermath of the 1947 Partition, the narrative follows a Mohajir family crossing over to Lahore and settling into an abandoned home. The central conflict unfolds when they discover an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to leave her ancestral residence.
