BJP Releases Interior Footage of Delhi CM’s Bungalow, Sparks AAP Rebuttal
The ongoing controversy over the Delhi Chief Minister's official bungalow, once occupied by Arvind Kejriwal, has become a focal point in the political battle leading up to the assembly elections. The BJP has labeled the residence at 6 Flag Staff Road as a "sheesh mahal," implying extravagant opulence.
"We have been telling you the truth about the glass palace of debauchery of the person who calls himself a common man @ArvindKejriwal, today we will show it to you too! He has built a 7-Star Resort for himself by embezzling public money!" declared Delhi BJP president Virendraa Sachdeva in an online statement.
According to Sachdeva, the cost of the bungalow, estimated at ₹3.75 crore, included lavish features such as a gym, a sauna room, and a jacuzzi. He further claimed that marble granite lighting alone cost ₹1.9 crore, civil work required ₹1.5 crore, and gym and spa fittings accounted for ₹35 lakh.
The BJP used these expenses to criticize Kejriwal’s "aam aadmi" image, questioning the disconnect between his promises and actions. "How those who swear on their children and falsely promise not to take government house, car, security are looting the money of Delhi's taxpayers," Sachdeva remarked.
Highlighting the alleged misuse of taxpayer funds, the BJP leader added, "Meanwhile, the common man of Delhi, DDA's 34 EWS Flat, or 15 LIG Flat, or 150 CNG Auto, or 326 E-Rickshaw can buy it! Red of corruption Wow Kejriwal!! Nothing else to say!!"
AAP leaders dismissed these accusations as baseless. Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia accused the BJP of attempting to distract from real issues. "Instead of answering critical questions about mismanagement of funds for schools, mid-day meals, and hospitals in states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, they focus on Kejriwal's former official residence. People ask about education and health reforms, they talk about a bungalow," Sisodia stated.
The BJP has consistently accused Kejriwal of flouting norms during the residence’s renovation, claiming over ₹45 crore of public funds were spent. They argue this contradicts the "simple living" philosophy Kejriwal championed when he entered politics.
Adding to the controversy, the CBI initiated a probe in September to examine alleged violations of tender rules in the construction process. While a full case is yet to be registered, inquiries are ongoing.
The AAP has countered these allegations, accusing the BJP of attempting to dismantle their party. Kejriwal himself welcomed any investigation, asserting, "They will find no evidence of illegal activity." Despite the allegations, the AAP maintains that this issue is a distraction from substantive discussions about governance.
