Cockroach Janta Party’s X Account Blocked Hours After Surpassing BJP in Instagram Followers
The X account of the youth’s rebellious party, the Cockroach Janta Party was withheld on Thursday, 21 May just hours after the satirical movement overtook the BJP ’s official instagram account in followers count which further intensified the online buzz around the movement.
This development was confirmed by the party leader Abhijeet Dipke as he wrote in an X post: "As expected, Cockroach Janta Party's account has been withheld in India".
The blocking came just around the corner of the unexpected rise of the Cockroach Janta Party across social media platforms. What barely started days ago as an online satire movement has now transformed into a full fledged digital phenomena. It is fuelled by the youth who are frustrated over unemployment, exam paper leaks, political discourse and largely institutional accountability.
Such withholdings will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued the valid legal demand or where the content has been found to violate local law, it said.
The Congress remains ahead with over 13 million followers, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trailing significantly behind.
The Cockroach Janta Party describes itself as a political front by the youth, for the youth and of the youth. In its manifesto it describes itself as secular, socialist, democratic and lazy.
The movement has blended humour, memes and political messaging to attract massive online engagement within days of its launch.
The Cockroach Janta Party has also positioned itself as a voice for students affected by issues such as the NEET paper leak controversy and unemployment.
Dipke has repeatedly insisted that the movement is not merely a fleeting meme trend but a reflection of growing frustration among Indian youth.
Whether the Cockroach Janta Party evolves into a formal political organisation or remains an internet-driven protest movement is still unclear.

Why the account was withheld
According to X policies such action is taken if the platform receives a ‘valid and properly scoped request from an authorised entity’ and when ‘it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time.’Such withholdings will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued the valid legal demand or where the content has been found to violate local law, it said.
