Delhi Government Approves 100 Percent Pay Hike for Disaster Management Staff After 16 Years
In a significant move aimed at strengthening the capital's emergency response framework, the Delhi Government has approved a remuneration increase of up to 100 percent for personnel serving under the Delhi State Disaster Management Authority (DSDMA). The decision brings long-awaited relief to key emergency officials whose salaries had remained completely frozen since 2009.
The pay revision benefits crucial personnel operating across the city’s administrative districts, including Project Officers (POs), District Project Officers (DPOs), and Project Coordinators. Describing the decision as an essential measure to deliver professional justice, state leadership emphasized that these officers have served as the fundamental backbone of Delhi's disaster mitigation and mitigation machinery for over a decade and a half without receiving a single pay adjustment.
Project Officers and District Project Officers received a fixed monthly salary of ₹25,000, while Project Coordinators drew ₹20,000 per month. Because these roles were structured outside standard government pay categories, the personnel were ineligible for periodic Dearness Allowance (DA) increments or general pay commission revisions that benefit regular public sector employees. Over the past 16 years, inflation rose continuously while the complexity of urban disaster management in the National Capital Region expanded significantly.
Their daily responsibilities include drafting district-level disaster management blueprints, performing scientific vulnerability assessments in dense residential areas, managing round-the-clock Emergency Operation Centres , and coordinating multi-agency responses during monsoon flooding, structural collapses, or seismic events. Additionally, the team conducts large-scale public awareness drives and mock drills to train local communities and first responders.
By aligning officer compensation with contemporary living costs and their technical expertise, the administration aims to retain experienced talent and boost morale across Delhi's disaster response departments.
