Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains to Launch After October 15; New Routes and Rail Projects Announced in Punjab.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday confirmed that the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are set to launch once the second train is ready for operation, with the development expected to be completed by October 15.
Officials revealed that the first train has successfully cleared all trials at the Shakur Basti Depot in Delhi. “Both the trains will be launched together. The second train is necessary to maintain regular services. That's why we are waiting for a second rake. Once we get it, we will decide on route and start operations,” Vaishnaw said. The Delhi–Patna route is expected to be the first to see service, coinciding with the upcoming Bihar assembly polls, according to PTI.
New Vande Bharat Routes and Rail Line in Punjab
In a separate announcement, Vaishnaw and Punjab State Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu unveiled plans for a new railway line connecting Rajpura and Mohali. They also proposed a Vande Bharat Express to run on the Firozpur Cantt–Bathinda–Patiala–Delhi route, covering 486 km in just 6 hours and 40 minutes, six days a week (except Wednesdays).
Boosting Rail Infrastructure in Punjab
The ministers highlighted that these projects will strengthen regional connectivity and improve travel experiences. Vaishnaw noted that investment in Punjab’s railways has surged dramatically, from Rs 225 crore (2009–2014) to Rs 5,421 crore now, crediting the efforts of Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu for driving this growth, ANI reported.
