Weather Today: Delhi Sees Coolest June Start in 3 Years; Temperature Likely To Rise

Delhi Weather Today: Delhi witnessed an unusually pleasant start to June on Monday, June 1 recording its coolest first day of the month in the last three years. According to the Safdarjung observatory, the maximum temperature settled at 36.3 degrees Celsius, below the seasonal average.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.9 degrees Celsius on June 1, 2026, offering residents respite from the intense heat experienced in recent weeks. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 105 at 4 p.m., June 1,2026, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that temperatures are likely to rise gradually over the coming days as the current spell of rain and thunderstorm activity weakens across North India.

Madhya Pradesh Hit by Heavy Rain and Powerful Winds

Several districts across Madhya Pradesh experienced severe weather conditions as heavy rainfall and high-speed winds disrupted normal life. The IMD’s Bhopal centre reported wind gusts reaching up to 94 kmph on Tuesday, June 2 in isolated areas, making it one of the strongest pre-monsoon storms of the season.

The weather disturbance was triggered by a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan along with a trough extending across Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD issued an orange alert for multiple districts.

Though the rain brought the much awaited relief to the scorching heat of nearly 46 degrees Celsius recorded in places like Khajurao last week, the storm has also caused widespread damage as trees were uprooted, power supply was disrupted in rural areas and semi permanent structures suffered damage as well due to the storm.

Rajasthan Gets Relief as Rain and Hailstorm Lower Temperatures

Parts of Rajasthan witnessed rain and hailstorm on Monday bringing relief from heat as maximum temperatures in many areas dropped up to five degrees below normal, officials said. Rain, accompanied by strong winds, was reported across more than 10 districts, including Nagaur, Phalodi, Chittorgarh and Ajmer., while hailstorm was recorded at isolated locations. According to the Meteorological Department, the change in weather is due to active western disturbances , which have led to recurring spells of rain and thunderstorms across the state.
