1. Potato Chips: A Snack Created Out of Frustration

Today, potato chips are one of the most popular snacks worldwide, but their creation reportedly began with a dissatisfied customer. In the mid-19th century, a chef in New York repeatedly received complaints that his fried potatoes were too thick.

Determined to make a point, he sliced the potatoes extremely thin, fried them until crisp, and added a generous amount of salt. Instead of rejecting them, the customer loved the crunchy creation. What started as an act of frustration soon became a snack enjoyed across the globe.

2. Tarte Tatin: The Upside-Down Dessert Born from a Mistake

One of France’s most celebrated desserts owes its existence to a kitchen accident. The story goes that one of the Tatin sisters, who ran a hotel in France, accidentally overcooked apples while preparing a pie.

Rather than discarding the dish, she placed pastry over the caramelised fruit and baked it. Once turned upside down for serving, the result was a delicious apple tart with rich flavours and a unique presentation. The accidental recipe went on to become a classic French dessert known as Tarte Tatin.
