Here’s a step-by-step guide to grow daisies in pots.

Step 1: Select the Right Seeds

For potted gardening, choose Shasta or African daisies. These can be purchased from a local nursery or online. Soak the seeds overnight in water to speed up germination.

Step 2: Prepare the Pot

Use a pot with good drainage, ideally 6–8 inches deep, such as a terracotta pot. Mix soil with 50% garden soil, 30% compost, and 20% sand to create a well-draining, loamy texture. Daisies dislike waterlogged soil, so drainage holes are essential.

Step 3: Plant the Seeds

Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and 2–3 inches apart. Water lightly after planting. Ensure the seeds have space to grow and the soil remains moist but not soggy.

Step 4: Provide Ideal Conditions

Daisies grow best in temperatures between 15–25°C. For regions like Delhi, the ideal planting season is October to February. Germination typically takes 10–15 days.

Step 5: Watering and Sunlight

Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Start with bright, indirect light, then gradually move the plant to full sun, giving it at least six hours daily. A south-facing window or balcony works best.

Step 6: Fertilisation and Pruning

Fertilise the plant once a month using diluted NPK. Remove dead or faded flowers regularly to encourage new blooms and maintain the plant’s aesthetic appeal.

Step 7: Pest Control

Check for aphids and other pests. Neem oil spray can be an effective natural solution to protect your daisy plants.

Step 8: Harvesting

Cut the daisy stems when flowers are fully bloomed and place them in water-filled vases. Freshly harvested daisies instantly enhance home décor and bring a cheerful touch to any room.

Growing daisy flowers in pots is a delightful and beginner-friendly way to enjoy nature’s beauty at home. With a little care, these flowers can provide vibrant blooms and a fresh atmosphere throughout the season.
