Spencer Matthews says Jamie Laing's wedding snub 'hurt him deeply' in fiery clash

Jamie LaingandSpencer Matthews have addressed their friendship breakdown for the first time after Jamie, 36, failed to invite Spencer, also 36, to his wedding with wife Sophie Habboo in 2023.
Jamie and Spencer's friendship began as teenagers at school before they became breakout stars of Made in Chelsea. Spencer, 36, appeared in the debut series, with Jamie, also 36, joining shortly after. The pair quickly became central figures on the show, known for their wild nights in Chelsea and tangled love lives.
Spencer left the reality hit in 2015, later marrying Vogue Williams in 2018 after meeting on The Jump. They now share three children, with Jamie proudly acting as godfather to their daughter Gigi. Jamie followed suit in 2021, quitting MIC after meeting his wife on the show. By then, he and Spencer had already launched their award-winning podcast, Six Degrees from Jamie and Spencer, in 2020.
But fans noticed their bond appeared to cool in recent years. The strain stemmed from Jamie’s wedding to Sophie Habboo in 2023.

Two months before their lavish ceremony in Spain, the couple held a legal service at Chelsea Registry Office. Spencer, invited to be master of ceremonies at the main event, was on holiday in Portugal during the registry ceremony and this sparked criticism that he had “snubbed” his best friend.
Spencer swiftly defended himself, writing online: “I’m being hammered for ‘snubbing’ my best friend’s wedding to go on holiday… I was not invited to this part of Jamie’s wedding, and neither was Vogue.”
Privately, Spencer admitted he was “p***ed off,” insisting he would have “flown from Japan” had he known. Jamie later accepted full blame, saying: “I fd up. It was hectic. I thought Spencer and Vogue were away… Spencer got upset - which is fair enough. Vogue even told me, ‘To be honest Jamie, it’s not good,’ and I was like, f***.”*
Now, the pair have revisited the rift for the first time on Great Company, reflecting on the fallout that shook one of reality TV’s most famous friendships.
Addressing not being invited to Jamie's wedding, Spencer told his friend that he was deeply hurt by his decision and was left highly confused by the snub. Spencer told Jamie on the podcast: "I have to say, I found it pretty confusing. I was pretty hurt by that, and I tried to brush that under the table.
"And I'm sure it was just like, you know, I don't want to speak for you, but yeah, I'm sure it wasn't malicious from you. Well, at least I'd like to think it wasn't right."
Spencer then recalled how he discovered he had been snubbed by Jamie as he said: "I remember how I found out about that. I was flying back from somewhere and someone showed me a Daily Mail article that literally showed me your London wedding celebrations, and loads of your friends there.
"I think we had had some conversation, and you were like, it's not really a friends thing. It's like a family small thing. And there were loads of friends there. And I can remember thinking, like, what have I? What have I done? Or, like, who? Like, what have I done to annoy him?
"Vogue was just a bit like, it's pretty weird that you wouldn't be invited to that, you know, and I just thought it is a real shame that I wasn't invited to that. At first, I just brushed it off as, 'Oh, it's fine. It doesn't matter'. But the more I thought about it, the more I probably felt that it did matter."

In response to Spencer's admission, Jamie said that he made the decision out of anxiety, admitting that he was riddled with anxiety and confusion during that time. Jamie said: "I was very anxious, and having a really tough time with anxiety around, you know, getting married.
"I'd put Sophie in doing this podcast all about our wedding, and she had said to me before, 'I just want to get married with my feet in the sand'. I don't want all of this. And you want this, Jamie, I don't want all this. So I was battling trying to handle all of this podcast we were doing about our wedding and everything like that.
"That was quite a lot to handle. And I was just thinking about her, and you, I had had my stag do, and you didn't want to come to the stag do, because that's it. I remember now you didn't want to come to the stag do, which was fine, which I get. But for me, that was like, Well, 'why wouldn't you want to come to the stag do?'
"When it came to the English wedding. I was like, this is all hectic. This is a lot. It's going to be complicated if I try and invite him, because he probably... I don't know if he wants to come, because it's going to be like a small thing for lunch. And will he want to come to that?

"And to be honest, in my head, I just went, fine. It's not, it's one thing less to think about. I just won't ask him to come. Yeah, and I can now focus over here. And that's why it happened," Jamie explained.
Jamie went on to address his stag, insisting that he didn't feel it was right for Spencer to go due his sobriety. The former Made In Chelsea star explained: "It's a good thing, also because, probably at that point, alcohol, I think you were the most amazing place, with fitness and alcohol and you're sober and all these different things."
He continued: "Probably because you were maybe battling around whether not drinking or drinking, and so you were in a selfish space as well, going, 'I don't want to put myself in situations that potentially are going to lead me to drinking'. Yeah, so I'm not going to articulate that to Jamie. I'm just going to say I don't want to do it, because that's not my thing."
Admitting that it was a breakdown in communication, Spencer added: "That's for you, for sure. Yeah, it's a breakdown of communication. You know, in retrospect, I probably should have come to stag for two nights and just not drank, you know, that was kind of selfish of me."
Thankfully, Spencer and Jamie have now put the issues to bed and are looking forward to building back up their friendship that has now spanned decades.
