Odisha Farmer Grows The World’s Costliest Mango

The rare mangoes are being grown by Deba Madkami from Tamasa village in Odisha’s Malkangiri district. According to reports, the farmer received the Miyazaki mango sapling nearly four years ago from a social worker and carefully nurtured it over time.

Despite Odisha’s challenging climate conditions, the tree has now started bearing fruit successfully. Each mango reportedly weighs over one kilogram, making the harvest even more valuable.

Biggest Challenge: Finding Buyers

Despite growing one of the world’s most expensive mango varieties, the farmer now faces another major problem, finding buyers locally.

Malkangiri is a remote tribal district, and there is currently no organised market for luxury fruits like the Miyazaki mango. Without proper export channels or premium fruit buyers nearby, selling the expensive produce has become difficult.

Locals believe that if the Odisha government and horticulture department provide marketing and export support, more farmers in the region could benefit from cultivating premium exotic fruits in the future.
