Govardhan Puja 2025: Significance

Govardhan is a day that is solely devoted to Lord Krishna and has immense religious and spiritual significance. On this auspicious day of Govardhan, people worship Lord Krishna with immense devotion and purity. As per Hindu Scripture "Bhagavat Purana", the people of Gokul used to worship Lord Indra, the god of rain. However, one day, Lord Krishna instructed them to stop worshiping Lord Indra and instead do puja to Govardhan hill, which gave them resources. All the villagers began offering Annakoot to show their gratitude to Mount Govardhan, which infuriated Lord Indra, who responded with torrential rain. Then, to protect the villagers from Lord Indra's wrath, Lord Krishna lifted the entire Govardhan mountain on his little finger. After acknowledging Krishna's divine abilities, Indra cooled his temper.
