Significance of Maha Ashtami


Maha Ashtami is revered as the day when Maa Durga defeated demon Mahishasur, symbolizing the eternal victory of righteousness. Devotees worship Maha Gauri, chanting Durga mantras , reciting the Durga Saptashati Paath, and performing hawan for peace and prosperity. Communities unite in celebration, reflecting deep cultural and spiritual traditions.



Navratri Day 8 Colour


This year, the day is dedicated to peacock green, a colour symbolizing harmony and compassion. Devotees wear this shade and offer peacock green flowers and clothes to Goddess Maha Gauri.


Kanya Pujan on Ashtami


A highlight of Maha Ashtami is Kanya Pujan. Devotees prepare halwa, chana, and poori as bhog and invite little girls (ages 5, 7, and 9), honoring them as embodiments of the Goddess. They are served food, given dakshina, and offered gifts such as clothes, stationery, or toys. Many also extend charity to underprivileged girls on this day.

  • Offer coconut, flowers, and sattvik bhog to Maa Gauri.

  • Perform kanya pujan by washing the girls’ feet, serving prasad, and presenting gifts.
