FIFA World Cup 2026: Fans Can Watch on Zee5 and Unite8 Sports, But How Much to Pay?

Newspoint
After months of uncertainty surrounding the FIFA World Cup’s Indian broadcast rights, Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) has officially secured the media rights for the 2026 and 2030 FIFA World Cups. The deal ends FIFA’s lengthy search for a broadcaster in one of its biggest global markets and also marks Zee’s return to major sports broadcasting nearly a decade after exiting the sector.

Apart from the men’s World Cups, the agreement also includes 39 FIFA events through 2034, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup and youth tournaments. For Indian football fans, however, the biggest question has finally been answered of where and how to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

How to Stream FIFA World Cup 2026 in India

Fans wanting to watch matches online will be able to stream all 104 games live on the Zee5 app and website. Zee has placed the tournament under its premium subscription offerings as part of its strategy to grow sports streaming in India .

Currently, Zee5 offers two major plans that can cover the tournament period with the Zee5 All Access + Sports plan costing ₹799 for three months and includes ad-supported streaming . However, the Zee5 Premium Annual plan costs ₹1,699 per year and includes 4K Ultra HD streaming, Dolby Atmos audio support, and access on up to four devices simultaneously.

Although Zee has not yet announced a dedicated FIFA World Cup pass, industry experts believe a tournament-specific subscription could still be introduced closer to kickoff.

Viewers may also avoid additional spending through telecom and broadband bundles. Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, OTTplay and Tata Play Binge frequently include Zee5 Premium access with selected plans.

FIFA World Cup 2026 on Television

Fans preferring television broadcasts will be able to watch matches through Zee’s newly launched Unite8 Sports network.
The broadcaster has officially launched four sports channels:

  • Unite8 Sports 1
  • Unite8 Sports 1 HD
  • Unite8 Sports 2
  • Unite8 Sports 2 HD

Since several group-stage matches will take place simultaneously, coverage is expected to be split across multiple channels with separate language feeds.

According to Zee’s published pricing, Unite8 Sports channels will cost between ₹7 and ₹11 per month, excluding taxes. However, final pricing will depend on DTH and cable operators.

Why the Broadcast Deal Took So Long

Industry reports suggest FIFA initially demanded close to $100 million for the combined 2026 and 2030 World Cup rights package. Broadcasters reportedly considered the valuation too high, especially because most matches will take place late at night in India due to the tournament being hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Only 14 out of the tournament’s 104 matches are expected to begin before midnight IST. The final itself is expected to start around 12:30 AM IST for Indian viewers.

These difficult viewing hours reportedly made broadcasters more cautious compared to previous editions in Qatar and Russia.

Indian football fans now finally know where they can watch the FIFA World Cup 2026. Every match will be available either through Zee5 streaming or Unite8 Sports television channels.
The bigger challenge, however, may not be finding where to watch the matches but staying awake long enough to watch them.
