The Minnesota Timberwolves have bagged a huge reason to celebrate as three of their stars cracked ESPN ’s top-50 NBA players list for the 2025-26 season. Leading the pack is Anthony Edwards , who soared into the top 10, climbing to an impressive No. 6, up four spots from last year. Edwards trails only Nikola Jokic (No. 1), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (No. 2), Luka Doncic (No. 3), Giannis Antetokounmpo (No. 4), and Victor Wembanyama (No. 5). By moving up, Edwards has surpassed legends like Stephen Curry (No. 7), LeBron James (No. 8), and Kevin Durant (No. 9).

Anthony Edwards leads the Minnesota Timberwolves’ rise, while Rudy Gobert sees a ranking dip

Notably, Anthony Edwards has been rising fast in the league. Last season, he added a strong three-point shot to his game. He made 320 threes at a career-high 39.5%. This helped him average 27.6 points per game. He also led the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Western Conference finals for the second consecutive year. This was the first time in team history that Minnesota advanced past the first round in back-to-back playoffs.

During the season, Edwards also helped integrate new big man Julius Randle into the starting lineup after trading Karl-Anthony Towns to New York. Randle averaged 18.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. He moved up six spots in ESPN’s rankings to No. 42. Minnesota liked his performance and signed him to a three-year, $100 million extension in June.

Veteran center Rudy Gobert, however, dropped 15 spots to No. 49. Gobert continued to grab double-digit rebounds and anchored the Timberwolves’ top-10 defense. But ESPN cited his outside shooting, foul trouble, and perimeter defense as reasons for the drop.
