Indian cricket team ODI captain Rohit Sharma was seen entering Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Monday, sparking concerns among fans. A video circulating on social media showed the 38-year-old star walking into the hospital while ignoring questions from paparazzi. Although the reason for his visit was not immediately known, it drew attention as Rohit is expected to make his much-anticipated return in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

Fans Worried About His Fitness

Rohit last played international cricket during the Champions Trophy earlier this year. His most recent appearance on the field came for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. With India’s limited-overs series against Australia approaching, fans are eager to see him back in action, and the hospital visit has naturally led to speculation regarding his fitness.

Reflecting on His Test Career

Earlier on Monday, Rohit Sharma also spoke at a CEAT event, reflecting on his decision to retire from Test cricket earlier this year. He admitted that while the format was rewarding, it was also highly demanding. “Especially in the Test format, you have to last for five days. Mentally, it is very challenging and it is draining as well. But all cricketers have been brought up playing First-Class cricket,” he said.

Test Cricket: A Demanding Format

Rohit explained that the foundation of Indian players often comes from long-format domestic cricket, which helps in handling the pressures of Tests. “When we start playing cricket at a competitive level, even in Mumbai, club cricket (matches) go on for two days (or) three days so we are built like that and it starts at a very young age for us. It kind of makes it a little easier how to respond to situations that are there in front of you,” he added.

The Importance of Preparation

The former Test skipper underlined how preparation played a vital role in coping with the physical and mental strain of the game. “It is something that you prepare for, because the game demands longevity,” he said. Rohit shared that his personal approach to cricket evolved over the years, moving from simply enjoying the game to understanding the need for disciplined preparation.

Lessons for Young Cricketers

Drawing from his journey, Rohit noted that young cricketers often overlook the role of preparation early in their careers. “When you are very young, you don’t understand the importance of preparation. But as you go along, you understand, it gives you a kind of discipline that the game asks for, so it starts with preparation, understanding what exactly you need to do,” he explained.

A Career of Adaptation

Rohit’s Test career, which he ended in May, spanned 67 matches with 4,301 runs at an average of 40.58. He retired from the longest format a year after stepping away from T20 internationals, where he went out on a high by leading India to a World Cup title. His ODI career, however, continues, and fans expect him to anchor the side with experience in the upcoming series.

What Lies Ahead

With Rohit’s hospital visit making headlines, attention now shifts to his availability for the series against Australia. While no official statement has been issued regarding his health, the incident has stirred debate on social media about his readiness. For now, the cricketing community awaits clarity while hoping to see India’s ODI captain back in full form.
