Claude AI Chat Leak: Private Conversations Reportedly Appeared in Google Search Results
A trove of seemingly private conversations with Anthropic ’s Claude chatbot appeared in Google Search results recently, sparking alarm after users discovered sensitive information including cryptocurrency wallet keys and personal details which have been exposed inadvertently. According to a report by Fortune, the issue was traced to Claude’s ‘share’ feature which enables users to generate a link to send a conversation to others.
According to posts that circulated on Reddit, simply searching a specific phrase on Google was enough to surface a long list of these shared Claude chats, along with "Artifacts," the mini apps and interactive tools people build inside Claude. One user with a sizeable following on X reportedly went further, saying he'd found not just chats but shared workspaces containing financial records, legal drafts, and health information baked into these artifacts.
Critics weren't entirely convinced by that framing. Their argument is simpler: if a "share" button doesn't warn users clearly that their conversation could end up searchable by literally anyone, most people will never think to protect themselves.
