Bhubaneswar: A goof-up left grieving family members of a deceased young man from Odisha in deep agony as they found the body of a stranger in the coffin which they received from Bengaluru.

According to sources, Rakesh Shaw, a 21-year-old software engineer from Mulisingh village in Soro, died after accidentally coming in contact with a live electric wire while on a rooftop last Sunday. After the postmortem, his father identified the body and arranged for it to be transported from Bengaluru to Odisha.

In a cruel mischief of fate, his coffin was swapped at the airport as a result of which the body of a person from Siliguri in West Bengal was wrongly flown to Bhubaneswar and reached Balasore, while Rakesh’s body was mistakenly sent there.

Both families have agreed to exchange the bodies.

Rakesh’s family has also lodged a complaint with Soro police station and appealed to the state government to ensure that the body is returned to them promptly for the last rites, the sources added.
