The June 2026 car sales figures have reshuffled the rankings in India's highly competitive passenger vehicle market. After the Maruti Suzuki Dzire dominated sales for two consecutive months, the Tata Punch has emerged as the country's best-selling car.

The launch of the Punch facelift in January 2026, followed by the updated Punch EV in February, has helped boost customer interest. With refreshed styling, additional features and multiple powertrain options, the Punch continues to appeal to urban buyers looking for a compact yet practical SUV.

Despite losing the top position it held earlier this year, the Nexon remains one of India's most popular SUVs. It offers buyers a wide choice of powertrains, including petrol, diesel, turbo-CNG and electric variants.
The internal combustion engine version starts at Rs 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Nexon EV is priced between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The model also recorded an impressive 58.03 per cent year-on-year growth.
The compact sedan recorded sales of 17,899 units, registering a 15.60 per cent year-on-year growth.
Currently in its fourth-generation avatar, launched in 2024, the Dzire continues to attract private buyers as well as commercial fleet operators. Its 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, improved design and reputation for reliability remain key reasons behind its sustained popularity.
The tall-boy hatchback registered sales of 16,952 units during June 2026, reflecting a healthy 31.11 per cent year-on-year growth.
Since the launch of its current generation in 2019, the Wagon R has consistently appealed to buyers seeking practicality, spacious interiors, dependable performance and affordable ownership costs.
