Banks in several Indian cities will remain closed on Friday, 5 September 2025, in observance of Milad-un-Nabi (Eid-e-Milad) and Thiruvonam (Onam), as per the state-wise holiday schedule issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

However, there is an exception for Mumbai. The RBI has shifted the holiday originally marked for 5 September to 8 September 2025, following a decision by the Muslim community to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession on that date. The RBI issued an official notification on 3 September to inform customers about this change.

Bank holidays in India are listed in the RBI’s annual holiday calendar, prepared in line with the Negotiable Instruments Act. On these designated holidays, cheque clearances, promissory notes and related transactions are not processed.
