Hero Image
Filing your Income Tax Return (ITR) is an important task, but completing the filing process requires one more critical step verification. Under the Income Tax Act, your ITR must be verified within 30 days of filing. Failure to do so will result in your return being treated as invalid, which can lead to penalties, interest, and loss of benefits such as carrying forward losses.

The date on which your duly verified ITR-V is received at the Centralised Processing Centre (CPC) is considered for determining this 30-day period.

Ways to e-Verify Your ITR

The Income Tax Department provides multiple options to e-verify your return:

  1. Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)
  2. Aadhaar OTP linked to your mobile number
  3. Electronic Verification Code (EVC) via pre-validated bank or demat account
  4. Bank ATM for offline EVC generation
  5. Net Banking through your bank

Among these, Aadhaar OTP is one of the simplest and fastest methods. Ensure that your mobile number is updated and linked with Aadhaar before attempting this method.
