From Excuses To Accusations: Bengaluru Nursing Student’s False Gang-Rape Claim Exposed By CCTV & Chats

A police investigation in Bengaluru has revealed that a gang-rape allegation made by a 22-year-old nursing student was fabricated, with CCTV footage and digital records showing that the incident did not occur as claimed. The student had alleged that a cab driver and several unnamed accomplices assaulted her near Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal, but the sequence of events uncovered by investigators showed a consensual interaction rather than an attack.

Police Respond Swiftly To Initial Complaint

The student, who hails from Kerala and studies at a private institution in the city, lodged her complaint on 6 December. She claimed the assault had taken place on the night of 2 December when she took a cab to the railway station to catch an early-morning train. Police immediately registered a case and shifted it to Banaswadi police station due to jurisdictional requirements. Before the transfer, senior officers were briefed and directed a prompt arrest of the cab driver, a 33-year-old father of two, who maintained throughout that he had done nothing wrong.

CCTV Footage Contradicts Allegations

When investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the terminal, they found that the student and the driver spent several hours together at the station between late night and early morning. The footage showed them walking around the premises, returning to the cab at intervals, and later parting ways when the student boarded a train to Ernakulam after 5.30am. Crucially, officers did not identify any of the supposed additional men she had mentioned, casting serious doubt on the claim.

WhatsApp Chats Reveal Continued Contact

Police examined the driver’s phone and found a series of WhatsApp messages from the student beginning on 3 December. The messages reflected familiarity and comfort rather than alarm, suggesting that their interaction had been consensual. Based on this contradiction, officers called her for further questioning. She then confessed that she had fabricated the allegation to avoid explaining scratch marks on her neck to her boyfriend.

Investigation Continues As Case Shifts Direction

Although the complaint has been acknowledged as false, the investigation remains active while procedures are completed. The driver, who had been taken into custody at the outset, awaits the formal closure of the case as officers review the legal steps to be taken regarding the false report.
