Scientists from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have discovered a new species of balsam flower , named Impatiens rajibiana , in the Shergaon region of Arunachal Pradesh . This endemic species emphasises the state’s reputation as a biodiversity hotspot and highlights the need for ongoing botanical research and conservation.

Impatiens rajibiana: A Unique Endemic Species

Impatiens rajibiana was identified during surveys of Arunachal Pradesh’s natural forests. Belonging to the balsam family, the plant is notable for its vibrant flowers and distinctive seed dispersal mechanism. Found exclusively in the Shergaon area, the discovery enriches the list of native flora documented by the BSI and underscores the ecological uniqueness of the region.

Arunachal Pradesh: A Biodiversity Treasure

The state is home to numerous rare and endemic plants, including previously discovered species like Impatiens godfreyi and Impatiens sashinborthakurii.
