Facebook Dating is stepping into the AI era with two new features designed to make online matchmaking easier and more engaging. Meta has introduced a Dating Assistant chatbot and a Meet Cute feature, both aimed at reducing the “swipe fatigue” many users feel on dating apps.

The Dating Assistant acts as a personalised AI chatbot that helps users discover potential partners based on their interests. For example, someone could type in a prompt like “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech”, and the assistant will suggest matches accordingly. Beyond matchmaking, it can also offer dating ideas and tips to improve your profile, making it more appealing to prospective matches. This feature will roll out gradually in the Matches tab for users in the United States and Canada.

Meta’s second AI tool, Meet Cute, works differently. It uses a personalised matching algorithm to surprise users with one carefully selected candidate each week. While Meta has not revealed the specific details of how the algorithm identifies compatibility, users will receive one suggested match that the AI believes aligns with their preferences. Importantly, anyone who doesn’t wish to receive weekly AI recommendations can opt out of this feature at any time.

Both AI additions are intended to refresh the Facebook Dating experience, offering users smarter tools and a break from the constant swiping culture. Whether these AI-powered features truly make the search for love more meaningful remains to be seen, but Meta is betting on artificial intelligence to make dating simpler and more personalised.
