Upcoming WhatsApp Feature Lets Users Create Profile Pictures With AI: Soon
WhatsApp is set to incorporate artificial intelligence-powered image generation tools within several features, according to recent reports. After experimenting with AI-generated stickers , WhatsApp is now testing a feature that allows users to create AI-powered profile photos , as reported by WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks WhatsApp updates.
The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, available on the Google Play Store for select users, includes a new option for generating profile pictures from text prompts. Within the profile picture edit section, users can now choose to "Describe an Image" using text. This description is then processed by an AI model to create a custom profile photo.
This feature appears to be part of Meta 's ongoing efforts to enhance privacy on WhatsApp . Recently, the company introduced a feature preventing the screenshots of profile pictures on the messaging platform. AI-generated images as profile photos are expected to reduce the risk of misuse or non-consensual sharing of personal images, the report highlights.
Currently under development, this feature could soon be available in certain regions. Meta has yet to roll out AI-generated stickers in India, which allows users to create and share custom stickers on WhatsApp using AI.
In other related news, WABetaInfo also reported that WhatsApp is testing a feature enabling users to clear all unread chats at once. A new "clear unread when app opens" option in the notification settings will let users reset their unread message count whenever they open the app. This feature, found in another beta version, is not yet active.
