WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a brand-new feature that will transform the way users communicate in group chats. The upcoming “@everyone” mention will allow a single message to notify all group members at once, ensuring no important update gets missed.

What is the “@everyone” feature?

The new feature, currently under development for Android and iOS, will be added to the existing mention menu. Just like tagging individuals, users will soon be able to choose “@everyone” and instantly alert the entire group, regardless of their personal notification settings.

Designed for busy groups

Large and active WhatsApp groups often struggle with missed messages. The “@everyone” functionality is designed to streamline communication, making sure crucial information such as announcements, reminders, or urgent updates reaches every member instantly.

How it differs from status mentions

Previously, WhatsApp allowed groups to be tagged in status updates. However, that option was limited in scope. The new “@everyone” mention works directly inside group chats, making it a more reliable and practical tool for direct communication.

Who can use the feature?

Unlike some features restricted to admins, early indications suggest that both admins and regular members will be able to use the “@everyone” tag. This will enable anyone in the group to capture collective attention without needing to mention people individually.

Benefits of the new update

  • Saves time by avoiding multiple individual mentions.
  • Reduces the chance of important messages being overlooked.
  • Works effectively in both small groups and large communities.
  • Enhances communication efficiency within WhatsApp groups.

Still in development

The “@everyone” feature is not yet available for beta testing, and WhatsApp may make final adjustments before its official release. Once launched, this addition is expected to significantly improve group chat experiences across the platform.
